Welcome to the High Wycombe Central Aid Society

The High Wycombe Central Aid Society is a Registered Charity (Registered Charity No. 201445) established to help needy people in the High Wycombe area. Established by Frances Dove in 1906, it is the oldest independent charity in High Wycombe, having been in existence for over 100 years.

We provide information and advice on a wide range of topics, small grants, plus clothing and food on a limited basis, to those in need of help in the High Wycombe area. This help is provided regardless of age, religion, or ethnic background.

We additionally provide the local office for SSAFA Forces Help.

The Society also runs a Furniture Project which collects donated furniture and furnishings, mainly for sale to those on low incomes. The Project also provides items of furniture for free to those in the greatest need as part of the Society's small grants scheme.

If you would like to become a Friend of the Society, and attend Society functions and receive two newsletters per year, an annual subscription of £5 per year minimum is requested - contact us for more details or download the application form here.

Clyde's Piece: Society Update - April 2011

High Wycombe Central Aid Society……105 years old and still, pretty much, doing the same good things for those in need in the local area.

As we look around the town nowadays, you can see the Society is spreading its wings. The furniture warehouse is open more days, the Pop In is growing its client numbers and we have a new presence on the Desborough Road in the latest venture, the Charity Shop. From all this exposure I can only hope that who we are and why we exist is becoming better known.

I am pleased to say that our rationalisation of office and warehouse seems to be working adequately and the staff and volunteers all seem to be working well. We are blessed with a good number of willing volunteers and our projects are improving financially. The deficit is smaller then expected this year, just finished, and we plan to improve that situation in the coming year. We are still receiving some small grants from the Chiltern District Council and Bucks Housing Association towards the costs of the furniture reuse and we will also have to try for donations from trust funds and others to help. We are fortunate to have a number of “Friends” who give the Society money regularly and we are grateful for any help with running costs.

My last “piece” mentioned our search for new trustees. Well I am pleased to say that at this year’s AGM we will be asking members to approve two new candidates.

I would like to wish all friends supporters and volunteers a pleasant summer and look forward to seeing you at our “get together”.
