Welcome to the High Wycombe Central Aid Society

The High Wycombe Central Aid Society is a Registered Charity (Registered Charity No. 201445) established to help needy people in the High Wycombe area. Established by Frances Dove in 1906, it is the oldest independent charity in High Wycombe, having been in existence for over 100 years.

We provide information and advice on a wide range of topics, small grants, plus clothing and food on a limited basis, to those in need of help in the High Wycombe area. This help is provided regardless of age, religion, or ethnic background.

We additionally provide the local office for SSAFA Forces Help.

The Society also runs a Furniture Project which collects donated furniture and furnishings, mainly for sale to those on low incomes. The Project also provides items of furniture for free to those in the greatest need as part of the Society's small grants scheme.

If you would like to become a Friend of the Society, and attend Society functions and receive two newsletters per year, an annual subscription of £5 per year minimum is requested - contact us for more details or download the application form here.

John Lewis Partnership Charity of the Year

Every year each local store selects a Charity of the Year. We were delighted when our local store in High Wycombe selected the Society as their Charity of the Year for 2008. John Lewis have provided us with a considerable amount of support during the year. There has been practical help, for example painting our furniture warehouse, financial assistance, supplying food for distribution to those in need in the community, and donating equipment for office administration.

The Society also received a cheque for £2000 raised by the John Lewis “Meet the Neighbours” event. This was handed over at a ceremony at the High Wycombe store on 3rd October. Pictured below are Clyde Perkins, Secretary to the Society on the left, and Tony Wheeler, Managing Director of the store on the right, with members of the team from John Lewis and the Society.

A Grand Quiz - RESULT

The quiz evening organised by Wycombe Independent Fundraisers, was a resounding success.  The venue was cosy, the food superb and the questions testing!
The proceeds were £754 going to us, the High Wycombe Central Aid Society.
From all the Trustees, Staff, and importantly Clients, thanks to all for the magnificent donation which will be put to good use in our daily work.

Current Warehouse Status

50%

After many weeks of trying to clear some space, some sales and plenty of grants given out, our warehouse is now half full. This means we have some room to collect more, although we are trying to concentrate on basic items that will fit into smaller houses and flats, so 3 seater sofas and large tables are not for us, I'm afraid. For those items we can take, we are now looking at a wait of 1 week for most areas now.

We always need many more beds and wardrobes as these are needed by families setting up home for the first time.

We are still very short of volunteers to come and help out on a regular basis serving customers. If you have good people skills and some time free on a Tuesday or Thursday and especially on a Saturday morning we'd love to hear from you !

Furniture Collections: Regular Notices

We are always keen to collect beds and wardrobes as these are in great demand and usually in short supply.

When we have space we only collect small dining suites (Tables with 2-4 Chairs), and very rarely display/wall units as we usually have a large number of these in stock.

Regrettably we've decided not to take 3 seater sofas for the foreseeable future - we can't take them due to their size, which is becoming more and more of a problem for us. Sorry if that seems arbitrary, but our collection team is frequently going out to visit people who have offered us 3 seater sofas only to refuse them because we don't think we'll be able to successfully deliver them to our typical range of properties.
